As today’s consumers, you are acutely aware of how far your dollar goes. You see our currency’s value shrinking and covering less terrain then ever before. As a result, the you demand greater performance from the hospitality and customer service industries. What you – the consumer – want is value AND quality. Value. Quality. Why are they so hard to find? Seems simple enough, right?

Well, at Olde City Grill we’ve heard your demands, and we’re doing everything we can to bring both quality and service to you! Monday through Thursday, we’ve come up with daily and nightly specials that we think you’re going to love! Monday is Wing Night! We’re offering 50¢ wings from 3pm to close. Tuesday we’ve extended our already amazing happy hour from 3pm to 10 pm with $2.00 slices of thin crust pizza and $1.50 Bud/Bud Light Drafts. Wednesday we’re offering every beer in stock – bottle, draft, domestic and import – at HALF PRICE! This is an awesome deal, and the best part is there isn’t a catch! Maybe you’ve wanted to try one of our high-end microbrews but the price tag scared you away. Wednesday is your opportunity to expand your horizons. Try a local draft, sample a Belgian craft import or just enjoy your traditional favorite. Whatever you want, it’s half price on Wednesday. Thursdays we’re offering you half price wine and $10 Extra Large Cheese Pizzas. This deal is ridiculous! Two people can order a pizza, two glasses of wine each and walk out the door for under $25. We’re very proud of this special because it lets our valued customers experience a well-rounded lunch or dinner without reaching too deep into their wallets.

Let’s not forget we also have the best Happy Hour, seven days a week from 4pm to 7pm. Have a great time without burning a hole in your pocket with $2.00 slices of thin crust pizza and $1.50 Bud/Bud Light Drafts. You just can’t beat that deal! Bottom line: after almost four years of doing business, we know we wouldn’t be around without your continued support; frankly, we love you for it. These specials are the best way for us to show you our sincere appreciation. So Pacific Beach, what do think of our deals?

“You gotta have whiz!”
“No man, youz gotta have fried onions and peppahhz!”
“White American cheese bro, that’s the stuff.”

Believe it or not, all of these statements are true. You’ve got to have all of these things to make a good Philly cheese steak. You’ve got to have Cheese Whiz, White American Cheese, Provolone, grilled onions, green peppers, and mushrooms. These ingredients are essential… as options. Truth is, every Philly/Eastern Pennsylvanian/South Jersey/Delaware transplant worth their salt grew up eating America’s second favorite sandwich a certain way. (Whatever, Hamburger. We like our cult following. We don’t want our sandwich so readily available that you can get one in a gas station and have your own microwave setting. Keep your crown pal.)

In those parts of the east coast, you can’t walk twenty feet without smelling the sweet aroma of a fired up grill from some hole in the wall run by a guy who looks like he’s doing night shifts at the local morgue. You know what? That man will undoubtedly serve you one of the best sandwiches you’ve ever had. Some of you are nodding right now. That’s one of the only things you miss about back home, right? Anyway, point is as transplants we all hold on to that cheese steak as the original, the benchmark by which all others are judged. How that sketchy, unkempt grill savant whipped our greasy delicacy together is what we’re looking for, however you define the one and only perfect cheese steak.

There’s only one thing that is unequivocally necessary in a cheese steak: Amoroso. Unless you’re baking a magnificent hybrid French and Italian roll (tip of the cap to Tony Luke), you must have Amoroso rolls. I don’t care how thick their accent is, how many Eagles posters the have or how rude they are to paying customers – if they don’t carry Amoroso THEY ARE A FRAUD. So, next time you go to your favorite cheese steak shop (like Olde City Grill, just to name one off the top of my head), order your sandwich however you like: Whiz, American, grilled onions, sweets, hots… whatever. Just make sure you ask if they carry Amoroso. That is the key to authenticity. Without Amoroso, it’s just a chopped up burger.
